Description
Kalevala Koru was founded in 1937, when Elsa Heporauta and a group of socially active women wanted to bring the beauty of our foremothers’ jewelry within reach of the modern women of their time. Replicas and adaptations of ancient jewelry received an enthusiastic response and quickly became highly popular. Kalevala Koru was established as a tribute to the Finnish Kalevala woman.
To this day, Kalevala Koru is owned by Kalevalaisten Naisten Liitto (the Kalevala Women’s Union), which supports and promotes Finnish cultural work. All Kalevala Koru jewelry is handmade in Finland.
This striking necklace designed based on a model that is nearly a thousand years old is composed of beautifully decorated bronze beads. The necklace can also be worn in a shorter version by removing a section of it—simply open the screw clasps hidden inside two smooth beads. The removed section can be worn as a bracelet.
