Description
Kaisaleena Mäkelä was a Finnish designer, artist, and silversmith. A jewelry designer for Kalevala since 1993 until her death, Mäkelä has been responsible for several large collections that are historic in nature and are richly intertwined with culture. Enthralled with old mythology and symbolism, Mäkelä took past myths and re-worked them into modern and wearable pieces of jewelry.
The Kalevankarhu belonged to the extensive Alkuaika collection designed by silversmith Kaisaleena Mäkelä, which drew its inspiration from animal-themed jewelry used by Finno-Ugric peoples during the Iron Age. The Alkuaika jewelry line was introduced for sale in the late 1990s.
The jewelry is in beautiful condition and handmade in Finland.
