Description
Oiva Toikka was a Finnish designer and ceramicist. From 1963 onward, Toikka worked at the Nuutajärvi glass factory. He is best known for his glass birds, but in addition he designed a wide range of other art glass as well as utilitarian tableware. He also designed fabrics for Marimekko. Toikka was fascinated by glass as a material because of its fast-paced working process. His glass works are characterized by experimental spirit, vibrant colors and often a playful lightness. Toikka received several awards for his work during his career: the Kaj Franck Design Prize, the Prince Eugen Medal, and the Pro Finlandia Medal. In 2003, he was named an honorary member of the University of Art and Design Helsinki.
The art glass is in very good condition.
Observations: Some air bubbles in the glass mass and two production-related marks on the glass, one on the inside of the art glass and the other on the outside. Shown in the pictures.
