Description

Oiva Toikka was a Finnish designer and ceramicist. From 1963 onward, Toikka worked at the Nuutajärvi glass factory. In 2014, Nuutajärvi production moved to become part of the Iittala glass factory, where the blowers continued to work. Toikka is best known for his glass birds, but in addition he designed a wide range of other art glass as well as utilitarian tableware. Toikka was fascinated by glass as a material because of its fast-paced working process. His glass works are characterized by experimental spirit, vibrant colors and often a playful lightness. Toikka received several awards for his work during his career: the Kaj Franck Design Prize, the Prince Eugen Medal, and the Pro Finlandia Medal. In 2003, he was named an honorary member of the University of Art and Design Helsinki.

In Birds by Toikka -collection, Oiva Toikka’s boundless imagination and artistic vision combine with the traditional craft of glassblowing. The Annual egg is mouth blown glass and handmade in Finland.

The Kaisla Annual egg is in very good condition. As good as new.
