Description
Nanny Still was a Finnish glass artist. In 1949, she won the Nordic design competition of Riihimäen Lasi, which led to her being hired by the factory. Still is best known for these works created for Riihimäen Lasi. At the factory, she designed both art glass and functional glass objects.
In 1958, Still married the American George McKinney, and they moved to Brussels. However, while living in Belgium, Still was able to continue her artistic career and worked, among others, for the Riihimäki glass factory until 1976. In addition, she established connections with manufacturers in Central Europe. Over the course of her versatile career, Still designed almost everything from jewelry to frying pans.
The Harlekiini series, designed by Nanny Still, was produced at Riihimäen Lasi from 1959 to 1971, but the design work began already in 1958. Different parts of the series were produced in different years.
