Description
Ilmari Tapiovaara was one of the most significant Finnish designers and interior architects of his time.
At the beginning of his career, he worked as a trainee at Finmar, the company that marketed Aalto’s furniture in England, which had a major influence on his ideas about furniture design. Before opening his own studio in 1950, Tapiovaara served as the artistic director of Asko-Avonius from 1938 to 1941 and worked for Keravan Puuteollisuus from 1941 to 1951. Tapiovaara received a total of six gold medals from the Milan Triennial, as well as many other prestigious architecture and design awards.
During his career, he designed dozens of iconic pieces of furniture that remain just as popular today.
