Description
Liisa Hallamaa (Hallamaa-Walden, née Larsen) was a Finnish ceramic artist. She began working as an apprentice at the Wärtsilä Arabia porcelain factory in 1945 while studying in the ceramics department of the Central School of Industrial Arts. In 1949–1950 she married and lived in Norway. After returning to Finland, Liisa Hallamaa first worked in Arabia’s industrial art department from 1950 to 1957 and then as an independent artist in the art department from 1957 to 1970. She was known for her large dishes and vases, typically made of chamotte and stoneware.
In 1973, she founded her own ceramics studio, Alamaan Keramiikka, in Mikkeli, Finland. Hallamaa held solo exhibitions and took part in group exhibitions both in Finland and abroad, and she received several awards for her work.
