Description
Evald Okas (1915-2011) was an Estonian painter. He was born in Tallinn in 1915 into a carpenter’s family. After graduating from upper secondary school, he was admitted to the State School of Applied Art and later to the State Academy of Art.
Okas was already able to present his first works in group exhibitions during his student years, and he went on to become one of the most prolific and versatile visual artists of the 20th century. Okas is especially known for his sensual female figures, but his oeuvre also includes classic seascapes, colorful floral arrangements, and skillfully executed graphic works exploring architectural proportions.
